Classical Melodies Incorporated is a  501 (c) 3, nonprofit organization.  It is a performance-based organization focusing on introducing Classical Vocal music to underserved/ under-represented communities, particularly school-aged, at-risk children of color.  This introduction includes access to quality, professional performances of opera arias, art songs, spirituals, and historical facts about the art form.  "Explore The Unpopular" is the motto of Classical Melodies Inc., and "to dispel stereotypes and share Classical music with EVERYONE, not just the elite" is the mission statement.   CMI's mission is to provide access to quality, professional Classical Vocal music and performers in THEIR community by people that look like them. Sharing this particular art-form with these communities can and will inspire them to be bold and think differently, empower them to channel negative energy into art,  broaden their horizons, foster an attitude of tolerance for others, and allow them to become more productive citizens in their community and society.

 

Tanisha L. Ward is a former student of the Memphis City Public School system, the same school system and neighborhood many of  these students live in today.  As an African-American Classical singer, she feels it is her duty and an honor to "spark" the torch for the next generation, that they may be emboldened to try something "different," and become positive , productive members of society.  As it's been said, "if they can see it, they can believe it."  Please give today.
